Aidan Young

Aidan Young

Chairperson & Trustee

Aidan graduated from Lincoln University in 2014 and holds a B.Com (VPM). He successfully became a Registered Valuer in 2017 and practices predominately within the Dunedin/Otago residential and lifestyle markets. He owns his own valuation Practice and is passionate about the profession. Aidan is excited to welcome the next generation of Valuers into this exciting industry.


Outside of work he keeps busy exploring everything that Otago and the surrounds has to offer, entertaining at home, and travelling often. Spending time growing up in Wanaka allowed him the opportunity to refine his skiing skills and he has a natural affection for the outdoors.

Phillip Curnow

Phillip Curnow

Phillip has been a Registered Valuer since 1977, commencing his career as an Urban Field Cadet in the Christchurch office of the Valuation Department.

From 1981 he has been in private practice in Hamilton, and from 1987 to 2022 with Curnow Tizard. Then in April 2022 established Curnow Commercial Limited.

Phillip has always had an interest in Valuers Institute matters especially education. He has served as chairman of the Waikato New Zealand Institute of Valuers (NZIV) Branch, then as a national councillor and following that as president of NZIV. While a councillor, Phillip, along with others, saw a need for further emphasis on valuer education and research. This led to the establishment of the Valuers Education and Integrity Foundation in 2016, of which Phillip was the inaugural chairperson.

In 2007 Phillip was appointed to and is a current member of the Valuers Registration Board after nomination by the NZIV. Phillip is a long standing Fellow member of the Arbitrators and Mediators Institute of New Zealand and is often called on to arbitrate property related disputes nationally.

Gwendoline Callaghan

Gwendoline Callaghan

Trustee

Gwendoline, co-established Colliers International’s only New Zealand valuation franchise Colliers International (Wellington Valuation) Limited. She started in the profession with the government Valuation Department in 1980 followed by overseas experience and on return positions with other national valuation firms including of Valuation Manager and National Valuation Manager.

Valuer education is a particular interest as is mentoring young valuers. She has served on the Property Institutes National Education Committee, Valuers Act Review Group and the Property Quarterly Magazine’s Editorial Committee.

Gwendoline was the recipient of the New Zealand Institute of Valuers Council Trophy in 1982 awarded to the student who completed the Urban Professional Examination with the most merit, a member of the statutory Valuers Registration Board from 1994 to 2003, a Director of the Property Institute from 2003-2007 and has been a member at the Land Valuation Tribunal since 2001. Gwendoline was awarded the John M Harcourt Memorial Award for “Outstanding Service to Valuation” in 2009 and a Life Membership of the New Zealand Institute of Valuers and Property Institute of New Zealand in 2014 and was awarded the Associate of the Year Award at the PCNZ Wellington Property People’s Awards in 2016.

Gwendoline has the Urban Professional Valuation Qualifications in 1982 and is a Registered Valuer.

Tony Culav

Tony Culav

Trustee

Tony has been a Registered Valuer since 1979 and following a cadetship and various valuation and other related property experience with the Housing Corporation of New Zealand in a number of New Zealand locations, entered private practice in Auckland as a valuer in 1984.

Since then he has completed a wide range of valuations from residential to commercial, has held positions of National Manager Valuation (L&B), has been Registered as a valuer and lead multi discipline infrastructural and other valuations in Fiji between 1991 and 2003, involved in valuation teams in the Australian eastern seaboard states and has carried out a number of large and varied portfolio valuations New Zealand wide over the last 30 years.

He holds a Dip Urb Val from the University of Auckland. Institute involvement has included branch committee activities, chairing the Valuers Act Review Group, past President of the New Zealand Institute of Valuers from 2004 to 2007 and Property Institute of New Zealand Board member. He is currently a member of the Auckland Land Valuation Tribunal.

Peter Loveridge

Peter Loveridge

Peter was born on the West Coast (South Island)- grew up in Ahaura (West Coast) and Spring Creek (near Blenheim) before his family shifted into Christchurch in 1975. He gained a Bachelor of Commerce (VPM) from Lincoln College and started work with the Valuation Department in Palmerston North in 1981 where he still resides today.

He took on an Agribusiness Lending role with TrustBank where he managed around 60 farmer clients in the Manawatu Region. After a Westpac takeover in 1999, he commenced work for Blackmore & Associates as their rural valuer and director, a role which he still presently enjoys.


Peter completed a two year stint with the New Zealand Institute of Valuers (NZIV) Manawatu Branch in the mid 1990’s and returned to the Manawatu’s Property Institute of New Zealand Branch in mid 2000’s before taking up the Branch chairman’s role in 2008-2009. In 2010 he joined the NZIV Council as one of three Central North Island representatives and in June 2015 was elected as the NZIV President and completed his duties as the past president in June 2017. Pete is a Registered Valuer.

Ben Rotto

Ben Rotto

Trustee

Ben Graduated from Lincoln University with a B.Com (VPM) in 2014. Moving back to his hometown Queenstown where he began his career at APL Property. He succeeded in becoming a Registered Valuer in 2020, now providing a range of valuation services predominantly within the Whakatipu Basin Residential and Lifestyle Markets.

Ben is an active member of the Institute. Having served on the executive committee the Central Otago branch from 2016, taking on the role of chairperson in 2020. Ben is passionate about helping young valuers into the profession and now assists graduate valuers on their path to registration.

Outside of work, Ben manages a non-profit organisation focused on the development of both adult- and junior-level hockey players in the Queenstown area. He is also a qualified International Ice Hockey Federation Referee. When he’s not at the Queenstown Ice Arena, you will find him enjoying the outdoor activities on offer in the Queenstown-Lakes District.

Kate Gibson

Kate Gibson

Trustee

Kate is a registered valuer and the owner of Valuation Partners Limited which is based in the South Island.

She spent over 10 years working in marketing and research overseas, for international IT companies, Compaq, Hewlett Packard and Microsoft and returned to New Zealand in 2008. Making the decision to follow her passion for all things property, she completed a Graduate Diploma in Property Valuation at Lincoln University and embarked on a career in property valuation. She became a registered valuer in early 2012.

As well as running her business and supporting her team, Kate undertakes a variety of valuations covering residential, lifestyle and commercial property and has a particular interest in energy efficient homes and works throughout the South Island in this specialist area. She is also an experienced researcher, looking at feasibility of development projects and property market trends.

She is passionate about encouraging others to consider retraining and joining the valuation profession and regularly supports students and graduate valuers with work experience and employment opportunities.
